  • Though India is a union of states the constitution gives much more importance to the center. Unitary government is a system of government in which all authority vested with one single top authority. The central government is the super power.
Indian constitution gives emphasis to a federal system but it has unitary elements also

    2. The parliament can change the territory of states. So as per indian constitution it is called ” an indestructible centre with destructible states
3 single constitution is applicable to both centre and states. In american federalism there are separate constitution for different states

5.Representation in rajyasabha is different in states according to population
    6. Centre can declare emergency in the country and can suspend or dismiss state legislatives
    7. No dual citizenship in india
    8. Single judiciary system exists. Unlike american federation it has two types of judiciary federal and state
    9. All india service gives much more control to centre over states
10 audit of states can be done by centre using comptroller and auditor general of india
11 parliament can pass law related to states if rajyasabha passes a resolution for that
12 centre appoints governers and he is an agent of centre. He can interfere many matters of states
    13. Election commission is common for both centre and states though states has seperate election commission but it is only for low lever like panchayats
