Brahma samaj was a social reforming organisation formed by Raja Ram Mohan Roy in 1928.It aimed to eradicate the social evils that was prevalent in hindu community in 19th century. It was the great achievement of brahma samaj that the sati was banned in 1929 by william bentick the then viceroy of british india. They opposed the caste system and idol worship and standed for widow marriage
After the demise of ram mohan roy the brahmo samaj devided in to severel sectors. Maharshi Devendra nath Tagore established Adhi brahmo samaj in 1861. In 1866 kesabh chandra sen established bharatiya brahmo samaj and another one that sadharan brahmo samaj.
